Reporting to the Manager, Telecommunications, the Telecommunications Technician role provides first line support for the network cable and telephone infrastructure. The role installs, certifies, maintains, trouble shoots and repairs equipment that comprises the University’s network and communications infrastructure. The communications infrastructure includes: the cable plant twisted pair copper, CAT6 copper, single mode, and multi-mode optical fibre, CATV and all associated jacks, cross connects and terminations, telephone equipment, UPS systems, computer server equipment in data centers and communications rooms. Services supported by the communications infrastructure include telephone service, network connections, cable TV, fax lines, modem lines, debit card connections, alarm circuit connections, electronic card access, and other services
Education:
College Diploma in a related IT field or an equivalent of 2 years recent experience (defined as within the last three years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.
Experience:
Three (3) years related experience in the voice and data communications industry, such as computer networks and communications systems, microcomputer hardware and software systems.

Additional Notes:
This position requires the successful candidate maintain a valid Driver’s License and a produce a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract. The successful candidate would have to provide proof of a valid Driver’s License and a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract upon being hired.This position requires the candidate to produce a verification of degree(s), credentials(s), or equivalencies from accredited institutions and/or international equivalents at the time of interview.
