Job Summary
BHE GT&S has an exciting opportunity on our Information Technology team for a Telecommunications Technician or Sr. Telecommunications Technician; determined based on successful candidate’s skills and experience. Under general supervision or independently, this role is responsible for complex tasks typically relating to network monitoring, operations, installation, and/or maintenance. High degree of expertise in the more complex areas of routine switch maintenance. An incumbent is responsible for working with an individual business unit on multi-project assignments. Guides and advises less experienced Telecommunications Technicians. Monitored on project’s progress and results. Errors may cause significant delay, expense, and disruption. Perform other duties as assigned. This position may be eligible for flexible work schedules including hybrid and compressed work schedule and are not guaranteed.
This position may report to our Bridgeport, WV, Delmont/Greensburg, PA, or Charleroi, PA locations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):
Required For Telecommunications Technician:
Minimum of 3-4 years’ experience in network and telecommunications applications
Required For Sr. Telecommunications Technician:
Minimum of 5-6years’ experience in network and telecommunications applications
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license (both)
Additional Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Abilities:
Must have a basic knowledge of all areas of telecommunications and possess the ability to work on telecommunications systems and equipment
Must be able to analyze trouble reports and perform maintenance of telecommunications equipment. Needs to possess a strong aptitude for technical understanding
Demonstrates the ability to perform the assigned duties within the realm of responsibility
Must possess skills to interface with various departments, internal and external customer groups to perform necessary telecommunications work
Possesses an awareness of customer requirements with emphasis on major initiatives.
Must be able to set priorities and demonstrate timely and effective response to customer and team member needs
Must understand methods and processes of the business units within the realm of responsibility. Able to respond effectively to diverse demands
Ability to respond effectively and timely to the needs and requirements of the business units. Must provide personal availability and maintain rotation on call status.
Must be able to lift 45 pounds
Must be able to see color and distinguish between colors
Experience with microwave transport systems, 2-way radios & related equipment is a plus
Education Requirements
Education Level: Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: High school graduate or GED
