Utility Locate Technician

Utility Locator-Gas Distribution

The DDS Companies is seeking an experienced Utility locator for its rapidly growing gas distribution division in the Capital Region of NY. In this fast paced, field-based role you will be responsible for locating and marking underground utility services including gas, electric, water and telecommunications so that our crews may safely complete their excavations and gas service installations.

Primary Responsibilities

• Uses utility maps, as-built civil engineering drawings, G.I.S. information, and various pipe and electronic locating equipment

• Utilizes stakes, flags, and/or paint to mark the location of underground utilities
• Prepares various reports, forms, and memos to document work completed, and problems encountered and/or resolved
• Investigates and prepares detailed written documentation on excavations that result in damage to underground utilities

Skills and Experience

Required

• Knowledge of utility locating practices and procedures
• Read and interpret utility maps and as-built civil engineering drawings
• Materials, equipment, rules, regulations, and ordinances governing the installation, repair, and maintenance of underground utilities
• Use of GIS and GPS systems
• Basic construction practices

Preferred

• City-required safety procedures
• Applicable State and local vehicle ordinances
• High school diploma
