Network Analyst – Telecommunications

Use your technical skills and experience with telecom networks to maintain a complex data communications infrastructure at one of the core hubs of health-care innovation, providing specialized care to patients throughout the province.
What you’ll do

  • Performs duties for planned or proposed network hardware or cable plant upgrades or replacements by conducting needs analysis with user groups, recommending hardware, specifying cabling needs, mapping the installation requirements, providing budget estimates and purchasing requisitions, coordinating project information with other Information Systems teams, and coordinating the work for contractors and electricians.
  • Provides technical support for complex data networks in a multi-site healthcare environment by methods such as installing, configuring, testing communication and network hardware and software, maintaining the network links in a multi-site environment, re-configuring equipment programming information traffic and address codes, assessing redundancies in the system and designing and programming as required.
  • Ensures the efficient operation of data networks by monitoring network reports on a daily basis for hardware failures, high utilization levels and unauthorized access, taking immediate action to resolve technical problems reported by the Help Desk or other Information Systems personnel; assessing event logs, graphs, type of traffic levels and error events.
  • Ensures all operational communication needs are met for network systems shutdowns by methods such as assessing the implications to the users and agreeing on and establishing change control windows.
  • Produces and/or ensures documentation and reports pertaining to hardware and cabling installations are updated on an ongoing basis by entering data into a database in order to track types of cabling, number of cables and connections made; produces electrical schematic diagrams for record keeping purposes.


What you bring
Qualifications
  • Graduation from a recognized degree or diploma program in Computer Science
  • 5+ years of experience with networking fundamentals and advanced troubleshooting, including aactivating network ports, patching ports, replacing network switches, troubleshooting site specific configurations
  • Experience with ticketing and monitoring systems
  • Thorough understanding of TCP/IP and network fundamentals
  • Implementation experience configuring routers and switches
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and analytical ability
  • Excellent written and verbal skills across a diverse group of stakeholders

  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have; knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
