OSP Splicing Engineer

SUMMARY:

OSP Splicing Engineer will provide splice matrixes and troubleshooting skills to the Field Operations personnel according to Dobson Fiber and industry standards. Engineer and design splicing matrix for individual FTTx circuit orders and FTTH network across all Dobson Markets. Use Dobson OSP GIS and Fiber inventory systems to document and maintain records. Review redlines, as-builts, blueprints, drawings, change orders, and specifications to verify completeness and accuracy of data and to plan for growth and optimization of fiber assets.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Reports to Director of OSP Engineering
  • Collaborates with OSPe peer to plan and peer review solutions
  • Input and track projects and orders requiring designs and splicing matrix
  • Adhere to processes for maintaining current, accurate, and up to date designs and records
  • Produce drawings/prints/footages to ensure accurate installation and testing by 3rdparty contractors
  • Produce reports as needed to reflect various OSP assets
  • Ensure plant designs are effectively protected
  • Filing and organizing office
  • Assists team in troubleshooting and tracking issues, presents creative solutions
  • Correlates and obtains desired designs upon request
  • Related work as prescribed

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES:

Must possess or develop proficiency with GIS and fiber inventory systems including CircuitVision and Google Earth. Familiarity with Crescent Link, ARC GIS, 3GIS or similar systems is beneficial. Thorough knowledge of engineering office practice and OSP splice designs; Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc); files and generating reports; clerical skills; ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written directions; ability to work under tight timeframes with good organizational skills; ability to work in a team environment; initiative in recognizing need for improvement in, or adaptation of, existing systems and effecting changes in them; in tracking down missing and misfiled items; accuracy in filing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor of Science degree preferred and/or a minimum of five to ten years outside plant Engineering with good working knowledge of OSP database/inventory/MGMT systems experience, which includes the knowledge and experience in OSP.

· Understanding of construction units/ terminology/ processes
